FM Global WorldReach Insurance - Case Study

Operating in more than 130 countries, FM Global WorldReach offers the company's unique combination of insurance products and services seamlessly around the globe, and through a single point of contact.

Situation

FM Global was constructing a new world headquarters. While the project was on a fast track it was taking place in multiple stages, including a Data Center, Main Building and Parking Structure. To accomplish this aggressive schedule, multiple sub-contractors were utilized along with a collaboration of project and system engineers. There was a need for several fire systems to be installed along with a smoke evacuation system for the large main entrance area.

Assessment

Working closely with the construction design team (general, electrical, sprinkler and HVAC contractors), the company's security team, along with the local AHJ, the Crown Supply fire alarm team was responsible for recommending how to best provide the required systems. It was determined that given the size of the property, a combining of multiple systems, including the smoke evacuation system and functions, into a single central system, was preferable.

Solution

Crown Supply's design team identified a system that would meet the Smoke Evacuation System requirements, as well as a fire system capable of covering all the structures and requiring a high number of devices. The system would also utilize a distributed network approach that would save time and allow the installation to be completed in stages. This staged completion approach would also help the subcontractors eliminate loose ends on this fast track project.

Result

The Crown Supply team, working closely with the installing contractors, completed the project on time, providing a single integrated system that met the customer's requirements, as well as those of the AHJ and the cusomter's facility and security management teams. By eliminating the need for multiple systems, a single point of control and response was created allowing first responders to be effective when needed. By utilizing a multi node system, system survivability was increased in the event of a disaster. The result was a timely installation of a fully compliant, municipally connected state of the art combination fire alarm and smoke control system to serve the premises for years to come.
